I guess you wouldn t have to lay it parallel but the shiplap has a lot more movement then plywood or osb.

First renail the existing plywood subfloor so that the old nails are tight and add new nails to achieve a maximum nail spacing of 6 inches.
It could be ok but you are dancing in the danger zone.
If the joists are at 19 2 or 16 on centers laying the wood parallel to the joists should not be a problem.
If you are planning to lay a plywood or chipboard layer in between your joists and your engineered wood floor you should choose a ply that is at least thick and preferably 5 8 of an inch thick.

This will ensure that the sub floor that you create is solid and stable.

If you have an older house with a shiplap floor the shiplap is perpendicular to the joists so the flooring is parallel to the joists.
Some houses have the shiplap on a 45.
With 3 4 subfloor it s best to add another layer.
If your sub floor is a concrete slab you can run the floors in any direction you prefer.

When hardwood floors are installed parallel to the joists they will sag squeak and gap.
